What Buckinghamshire is like
Buckinghamshire runs from Milton Keynes, the planned city at its northern end, through Aylesbury and the Vale of Aylesbury, to the wooded Chiltern Hills and the Thames-side towns of the south. The northern and southern ends feel like different counties and face different ways: Milton Keynes towards Bedford and Northampton, the Chiltern towns towards London.

Getting around: the M1 passes Milton Keynes and the M40 cuts across the south, Chiltern Railways runs from Marylebone to High Wycombe and Aylesbury, the Metropolitan line reaches Amersham and Chesham, and the West Coast Main Line stops at Milton Keynes.
Meeting up: because the county is long and thin, a couple in Marlow and a couple in Milton Keynes are an hour apart. Search by distance rather than by county, and agree a halfway point – or meet in London, which is easy to reach from the south of the county.
