The scene in the West Midlands
After London, the West Midlands is England's largest metropolitan area – Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Dudley and the boroughs in between. People here tend to think regionally: a drive across the conurbation is nothing.
Couples and single men are almost level here – one of the best balances in the country – and the West Midlands has more single women than most English counties outside London.
Birmingham
England's second city. Broad Street and the Jewellery Quarter have plenty of places for an easy first drink, and every suburb has its locals.
Coventry
A modern city with two universities, right in the middle of the country's motorway network – handy for meeting people from anywhere in the region.
Wolverhampton and the Black Country
Wolverhampton, Dudley and the Black Country towns – proud places with an identity all their own, minutes from Birmingham.
Getting around: the M6, M5, M42 and M6 Toll tie the whole conurbation together, and the Midland Metro runs between Wolverhampton and Birmingham. VIP's distance search lets you look across the region rather than just your own borough.
Meeting up: Birmingham city centre is the obvious neutral ground, a short train ride from almost anywhere in the conurbation. From the Black Country side, Wolverhampton works just as well.
