What Florida is like

Florida is long: from Pensacola on the Panhandle down to Miami is the best part of ten hours by road. Most people live in a handful of metro areas – the Miami–Fort Lauderdale corridor in the south-east, Orlando in the middle, Tampa Bay on the Gulf coast and Jacksonville in the north-east – with beach towns, retirement communities and a lot of open country in between.

Florida has more of our members than any other state, and couples clearly lead – well ahead of single men – with more single women than almost anywhere else. Ages run from thirty-somethings to a noticeable group of couples over 55.

Miami and Fort Lauderdale

Orlando and Kissimmee

Central Florida, with members spread out along I-4.

Tampa Bay

Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater on the Gulf coast.

Jacksonville, Ocala and the Panhandle

Jacksonville in the north-east, Ocala inland, and Panama City out along the Panhandle.

Getting around: I-95 runs down the Atlantic coast and I-75 down the Gulf side, I-4 links Tampa with Orlando and Daytona, and Florida’s Turnpike carries on from central Florida to Miami. Tampa to Orlando is about an hour and a half; Orlando to Miami, three to four hours.

Meeting up: a meet can easily turn into a weekend away – the coast is never far – but keep a first drink somewhere public and easy for both of you. In a state this size, search by distance rather than by state.
