What South Carolina is like
South Carolina falls into three parts: the Upstate around Greenville and Spartanburg at the foot of the Blue Ridge, the Midlands around Columbia, the state capital, and the coast – the Lowcountry around Charleston and Hilton Head, and the Grand Strand around Myrtle Beach. Nowhere is much more than three or four hours from anywhere else.
South Carolina punches well above its size on our site. Couples are the largest group by a clear margin, followed by single men and a good number of single women, and Columbia, Myrtle Beach, Greenville and Charleston all have groups of couples.
Columbia and the Midlands
The capital, right in the middle of the state.
Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand
The coast up towards North Carolina – busy in summer, quieter the rest of the year.
Greenville and the Upstate
Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson along I-85.
Charleston and the Lowcountry
The coast from Charleston south to Beaufort and Hilton Head.
Getting around: I-26 links the Upstate, Columbia and Charleston, I-85 runs through Greenville and Spartanburg, I-20 crosses Columbia towards Florence and Augusta, and I-95 runs up the coastal plain.
Meeting up: Myrtle Beach and Charleston fill with visitors in summer, which makes it easy to meet without standing out – and gives couples from across the state a reason for a weekend away. Columbia, in the middle, works as a halfway point for everyone else.
