The scene in County Durham
County Durham is the World Heritage cathedral city surrounded by former mining towns from Consett in the north to Bishop Auckland in the south, with wild Pennine upland rising to the west.
Our County Durham members are mostly single men, with a smaller group of couples – and with Tyne and Wear and Teesside so close, it pays to search across all three.
Durham city
The cathedral and castle above the River Wear. The medieval centre around them is a beautiful, low-key place for a first meeting.
Chester-le-Street
A market town between Durham and Newcastle – easy to reach from either.
Darlington and Bishop Auckland
The southern towns of the county, with Darlington on the A1(M).
Hartlepool and Peterlee
The towns along the east coast of the county.
Getting around: the A1(M) runs north–south through the county, and Newcastle is close by for a wider choice. VIP lets you search by distance across Durham, Tyne and Wear and Teesside.
Meeting up: Durham city is small, and people notice. For a first drink, Newcastle or Darlington give you more anonymity than the city centre.
