The scene in Nottinghamshire
Nottinghamshire runs from the city of Nottingham up through Sherwood Forest to Bassetlaw in the north – old coalfield towns, market towns and a big university city all within a short drive.
Couples outnumber single men here, which is rare – and most of them are in their late thirties or early forties. For couples looking for couples, it is one of the best counties in the Midlands.
Nottingham
A lively city with two universities and a well-known nightlife, linked by the NET tram.
Beeston and Arnold
Suburbs either side of the city, close enough to Nottingham's centre for an easy evening out.
Mansfield and Sherwood
The former coalfield towns around Sherwood Forest, with a character of their own.
Newark and Worksop
Market towns on the edge of the county – Newark on the A1 to the east, Worksop to the north.
Getting around: the M1 and A1 run through the county, putting Derby, Leicester, Sheffield and Lincoln within easy reach. Search by distance with VIP and you can look across the East Midlands, not just Nottinghamshire.
Meeting up: Nottingham city centre is the natural meeting point for the county, and its big student and visitor population makes it easy to blend in. From the north of the county, Sheffield and Lincoln are as close as Nottingham.
