What Missouri is like
Missouri sits in the middle of the country with a big city at each end – Kansas City on the Kansas line in the west, St. Louis on the Mississippi in the east – and the Ozarks rolling across the south. Springfield is the hub of the south-west, Columbia and Jefferson City sit in the middle, and a great deal of small-town and rural Missouri lies in between.
Missouri is one of our bigger states, and couples are its largest group – well ahead of single men – with a solid number of single women. Kansas City has the most members by some distance, with Springfield next.
Kansas City
The largest group by far, on the Missouri side of the metro.
Springfield and the Ozarks
The south-west’s main city, with Branson and the lake country not far away.
Columbia and Jefferson City
Mid-Missouri, between the two big cities on I-70.
St. Louis and the east
The Mississippi side of the state, with Illinois across the river.
Getting around: I-70 runs straight across the state from Kansas City to St. Louis in about four hours, I-44 heads south-west from St. Louis to Springfield and Joplin, and I-35 runs north from Kansas City.
Meeting up: Columbia sits roughly halfway along I-70, a natural meeting point between the two ends of the state. In small towns, where people notice an unfamiliar car on the street, a first drink somewhere bigger keeps things discreet.
