What New York is like

New York State is New York City and everything else. The five boroughs and Long Island hold most of the people; north of them run the Hudson Valley and the capital at Albany, then the long line of upstate cities – Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo – across to Lake Erie.

Our New York members are fairly evenly split between single men and couples, with a good share of single women – about half of them in the city itself.

New York City

The Hudson Valley and Albany

From Westchester up the river to the capital region.

Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo

Upstate cities strung along the Thruway – a long way from the city, and from each other.

Getting around: the subway, the LIRR and Metro-North cover the city and its suburbs, and the New York State Thruway runs up the Hudson to Albany and west to Buffalo. In the city, plenty of people never drive at all.

Meeting up: in the city, anonymity is easy – a busy bar is about the simplest first meet there is. Upstate, distances are long and towns are small, so search by distance and expect to travel.
