What Texas is like
Texas is enormous – El Paso to Houston is more than seven hundred miles. Most Texans live in the triangle formed by Dallas–Fort Worth in the north, Houston near the Gulf coast, and Austin and San Antonio in the centre, with the Panhandle around Amarillo, West Texas and the Rio Grande Valley further out.
For a state its size, Texas has fewer of our members than you might expect – single men and couples in similar numbers, and a relatively high share of single women, especially around Dallas.
Dallas–Fort Worth
The Metroplex and its suburbs, from Fort Worth across to Mesquite and Plano.
Houston and the Gulf coast
The state’s biggest city, with Galveston down on the coast.
Austin and San Antonio
Central Texas along I-35.
The Panhandle and West Texas
Amarillo, Lubbock and the long empty distances of the west.
Getting around: I-35 links San Antonio, Austin and Dallas–Fort Worth, I-45 runs from Dallas down to Houston, and I-10 crosses the south from Houston through San Antonio to El Paso. Dallas to Houston is around four hours by car.
Meeting up: with members spread across a state this big, search by distance and be realistic about travel. A city of millions makes it easy to meet without being noticed; from a small Texas town, it is worth driving to the nearest city for a first drink.
