What Virginia is like
Virginia runs from the Washington, D.C. suburbs of Northern Virginia down to Richmond, the state capital, and east to Hampton Roads – Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News and Hampton – where the military is a big part of life. West of the Blue Ridge lie the Shenandoah Valley and the cities of Roanoke and Salem.
Couples are the largest group of our Virginia members. Single men come next – noticeably younger on average than in most states – along with a good number of single women. Virginia Beach and Richmond have the most couples.

Northern Virginia
Arlington, Alexandria and the suburbs of Washington, D.C.
Richmond
The capital, roughly halfway between Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia.
Roanoke and the Valley
Roanoke, Salem and the Shenandoah Valley, west of the Blue Ridge.
Getting around: I-95 runs from Northern Virginia through Richmond, I-64 links Richmond with Hampton Roads and Charlottesville, and I-81 follows the Shenandoah Valley. Northern Virginia traffic is notorious, so allow for it.
Meeting up: Richmond is the natural halfway point between Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia. Around the bases, where colleagues may live nearby, discretion matters – keep identifying details off your profile until you trust someone.
