What Derbyshire is like

Derbyshire has a city at each end and hills in the middle. Derby lies in the south on the Trent valley; Chesterfield in the north-east near Sheffield; and the Peak District fills the west, with Buxton, Matlock and Bakewell among its towns. Ilkeston and Long Eaton sit on the Nottingham side, and Glossop looks towards Manchester.

Most of our Derbyshire members are single men – including more over-65s than most counties – alongside a good group of couples and a couple of single women.

Derby and the south

Buxton, Matlock, Bakewell and the hill villages.

Ilkeston and Long Eaton

The Erewash towns on the Nottingham border.

Getting around: the M1 runs up the east of the county, the A38 links Derby with the M1 and Birmingham, the A6 crosses the Peak from Derby to Buxton, and the A52 joins Derby and Nottingham.

Meeting up: because the Peak District sits in the middle, Derby and Chesterfield are better connected to Nottingham and Sheffield than to each other – search across the border as well as within the county.
